Fernblock as a biological filter

Fernblock® has demonstrated immunoprotection properties in vitro (Capote 2006) and in vivo with both topical application (Schalka2019) and oral administration (Mulero2008, Siscovic2008, Middelkamp2004). It has also been hypothesized that it can act as a “biological filter”, absorbing UV radiation and complementing physical and chemical filters by decreasing the quantity of radiation penetrating the skin.

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate and quantify its barrier or biological filter activity in protecting the skin’s immunological defenses from damage induced by UV radiation.
